Last month, Goodman Masson pulled out all the stops for Black History Month with various activities aimed to celebrate, educate, and raise awareness of Black heritage. Our Unity Network, led by chairs Neenu Santhosh and Khalid Iman, collaborated with Programme One to ensure the month was filled with education, engagement and awareness.
Here's a summary of our incredible month:
Consultants from various backgrounds came together to prepare and share dishes inspired by the diverse flavours of Africa and the Caribbean. Atta provided a taste of Ghana, Khalid brought flavours from Somaliland, and Jasmine took home the winning title with her delicious St. Lucian-inspired dishes! Not only were we spoilt with some delicious home-cooked food, but we also had a cultural exchange that sparked conversations among us all.
Unity Network chairs Neenu and Khalid, alongside Programme One, hosted a thought-provoking Learn2Earn session followed by a quiz celebrating British Black history. This event went beyond the surface, diving into how recruiters can advocate for Black talent and influence clients toward more inclusive hiring practices. Attendees learned actionable ways to promote diversity and reclaim narratives for Black talent in recruitment, followed by an engaging quiz that tested their knowledge of Black history in Britain.
In the spirit of giving back, Goodman Masson held a bake sale to support the Grenfell Foundation. Our team dressed in green and contributed homemade treats, which led to raising £408 for this vital cause. The bake sale not only raised funds but also reinforced our commitment to supporting causes that resonate within our community.
Goodman Masson was proud to host an impactful Black History Month breakfast panel in partnership with Programme One. This event focused on "Breaking Barriers and Shaping Inclusivity within Recruitment," underscored our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and beyond. Panellists shared insights on overcoming barriers in recruitment and offered valuable perspectives to guide our industry in embracing a more inclusive future. The breakfast panel reinforced Goodman Masson's role as a Programme One partner and showcased our dedication to integrating inclusivity into our D&I strategy.
Neenu and Khalid, our Unity Network chairs, shared their thoughts on the success of this year's BHM initiatives:
"As network chairs, Neenu and I believe that Black History Month was a great success, and it was great to have organised many different projects. We think that BHM is an essential opportunity to celebrate, educate, and connect across cultures. These activities weren't just celebrations; they were meaningful ways to bring our team closer and highlight the importance of diversity and cultural understanding within our organisation, which they can use when speaking to clients."
Overall, Black History Month 2024 at Goodman Masson was a powerful reminder of the richness that diversity brings to our workplace. Through food, education, and charity, we deepened our understanding, fostered connection, and embraced our role in supporting a more inclusive future.
