Meet our New York Banking & Financial Services Associate Director, Mia Walsh. Mia joined us back in 2017 as a UK Consultant in our first-ever Academy. Fast forward nearly seven years later, she has been promoted four times, won numerous awards and has relocated to New York, where she has established our US Banking & Financial Services team (which just turned one). We recently quizzed Mia about her success journey, check out her story below:

I started my career at Goodman Masson as a Consultant on the Academy. The training provided in the first few months, as well as the support I received from my manager at the time, gave me a great foundation to build my desk. Over the last few years, I’ve had clear goals to work towards, which has helped me maintain motivation, but also the flexibility to carve out my own path, which has kept me engaged and committed to Goodman Masson.
In 2021, I decided to step into management and launch our Investment Management Marketing business. I was initially hesitant about the idea of managing, but in reality, it was one of the most enjoyable transitions in my career so far! I really enjoyed coaching and developing other consultants and celebrating the wins as a team.
Towards the end of 2022, I started spending more time in New York, and this is when I realized I wanted to tackle the US market. After weeks of internal discussions, we decided to launch our US Banking & Financial Services which led to me moving to New York in April 2023. The last twelve months have been the most rewarding but, at times, the most challenging period of my career so far. Different ways of working in a new environment was initially an adjustment, but overall, it’s helped me mature both personally and professionally.
I’m very lucky that Goodman Masson has provided me with an environment to learn from some of the best in the industry and has invested in me personally to reach my full potential. However, mindset is a fundamental factor which has helped me progress. Stagnating or plodding is a territory which fills me with fear, so ways to overcome this is to always set goals and objectives to help me advance.
Winning the Goodman Award in 2023 for Entrepreneurialism & Bravery
By the end of 2025, I would like to have a team in place that can service the full spectrum of Non-Investment roles across Buy & Sell Side organizations
Say yes to extra training, support and workshops. This will help you more than you realize. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Shying away from situations or opportunities will only hold you back.
